Its sad what has happened. But what is worse is people making this an issue about women protection! What happened with Radhika had nothing to do with her gender. Nobody could have possibly known that so-and-so guy is armed and planning to shoot her. Nobody could have stopped it from happening once the guy had decided on it. Our "protection" isn't the issue here. Because there is hardly anything anyone can do about psychos roaming around shooting someone. Unless people want us to roam around delhi wearing bullet-proof vests. Or have 5 police men as body-guards for each one of us, everywhere we go. These are just unrealistic solutions to a problem. Sheila Dixit can't do a thing about it. Even if people expect her to take a bullet for someone then too she needs to know about it!! Really the whole problem is because we let people like this 22 or so year old guy be armed! Their families, for reasons that i can't fathom, give them power and freedom enough to actually have the guts to shoot another person, take a life. What kind of a twisted "kid" would do such a thing? And why a 20 something has a gun or feels the need to steal one to kill someone is beyond me!
If anything, regulate the laws regarding possession of firearms. Ask people who have guns at home to not let your children have the impression that its for taking lives. Its for self-defense!!
Also, people aren't scared enough by our current law and order status. Anybody with political connections or money can get away with anything. that needs to change and quickly. And yes we are back to the root of all OUR(Indians) problems- CORRUPTION!! Damn!! There is no missing it, right?
But the point is, lets not make this about women safety or drag this into the political war zone. Just simply prick the conscience of the people have the power to punish the person who did such a thing and not let him get away!

i agree with you swati, the problem needs to be solved from the root and not its end.. n the root cause is the fact that absolutely anybody can possess a gun..
but was scares me is that, if not a gun, then a knife? psychos will not stop if they dont want to..we do need strict vigilance too, at the end of the day we do..
like u said, they r not scared because they know they'l get away..THAT is what needs to be changed :)
And there is absolutely no way to do it since everyone is so busy concentrating on March pasts and Candle light stuff.
Hie swati...i totally agree wid u..i guess the issue of women protection is secondary wid regard to this incident.Infact the root cause of evry problem in INDIA is corruption..our law n order sucks..no body is afraid of being punished while committing a crime coz they knw a few thousand bucks will get them away easily..our country can nvr prosper this way..we'll always lag behind..n if the condition remains the same i think the incidents like these will become a common phenomena in no time...anyone will come n shoot anyone..
Humanity is turning inhumane.
Compassion is replaced by corruption.
Love by lust for money.
Peace by power.
And the only way to change this is if we do something about it. Not just think about it, talk about it, write about it.
We need to start doing.
What can we do?
It seems so hard and difficult.
It all starts by how you make your own difference even if in the smallest way. It isn't going to change all at once, we have to accept that. But if we start now, we can give our children an India that is ten times better than it already is. I am proud to be an Indian, I just want to be prouder.
I'm not going to allow for complacent behaviour anymore.
We need constant action, not just when something rocks our boat.
People may laugh, but it always starts with one person.
We need to change for our nation to change.
yes its right. protest march doesn't really help. but i believe every single person can still make a difference. we can make a difference by simply not blaming the girl for what happened. every time some thing like this happens the first reaction is it must be the girl's fault. be it the Jessica Lal case or the Aarushi Talwar case.......the girl's character is always the hot topic of debate. that needs to change and change fast......
also i agree this was not a security issue.....u cant stop crazy people on the street. but what happened afterwards was indeed a security lapse. it took 10 min for the police to reach the spot and an entire day to came up with the sketch! shocking!
